How to pay and close a tab
Process payments when a customer is ready to settle up, then choose whether to close the tab or keep it open for future orders.
Before you start: Ensure you have opened a tab and sent at least one order to it. (To learn how to open a tab and send orders, view our guide here.)
Paying and settling a tab
To take payment for an active tab:
- Tap the sale name at the top of the cart, select Tabs, then select the required tab.
- Process the payment using Charge, Cash, or Split, just as you would for a standard transaction.
- Once the tab balance is paid in full, select either Keep Open or Close Tab:
- Keep Open: Retains the tab in your active Tabs list so staff can add more items to it later.
- Close Tab: Formally closes the tab and marks the transaction as Paid in your Sales History.
Paying part of a tab (Split Payments)
To take a partial payment (e.g., when individuals in a group want to pay separately):
- Select Split as the payment method.
- Enter the amount being paid by the individual.
The tab remains open with the remaining balance owing, and the cart updates to display the total Already Paid.
Closing a open tab later
If you previously selected Keep Open and the customer is now finished:
- Open the tab from your Tabs list.
- Tap the three dots (more options icon) at the top of the cart.
- Tap Close Tab.
- Note: The Close Tab option will only appear once the outstanding balance is fully paid ($0 balance remaining).
Viewing tabs in Sales History
You can track active and completed tabs from your Sales History:
- Open tabs appear marked as Not Paid or Partially Paid, with the tab name displayed beneath the entry.
- Closed tabs appear marked as Paid.
- Tap any transaction entry to view its Tab Details, including its total balance and assigned spend limit.
