As a business owner, you don’t have time to be visiting bank branches and chasing paperwork.

At Zeller, we understand that. It’s why we’ve built an entirely online sign-up process designed around speed, security, and simplicity. The majority of businesses can access their Zeller Account and begin accepting payments, sending invoices, and managing their finances the very same day. To help you breeze through the sign-up process, this article outlines what to expect and the documents you’ll need. It also explains the security measures we take to protect your data and account, and answers common questions to help you feel confident in choosing Zeller.

How Zeller’s sign-up process works

Signing up to Zeller is easy and can be done on a desktop computer via our sign-up page or directly on Zeller App. Here’s what to expect from the process:

  1. Register online – Open your Zeller Account with your email address, and phone number. We’ll send you a verification code via SMS, so make sure you’ve got your phone nearby.

  2. Enter business details – If you have an ABN or ACN, you’ll enter it here. If you can’t remember what it is or don’t have it handy, you can quickly find it using the ABN Lookup tool.

  3. Upload business documents (if applicable) – For some business types (associations, partnerships, trusts, and government agencies) we’re required by law to collect additional information to verify your business. If you are signing up for one of these business types, ensure you have all your relevant business documents handy, you may need to upload things such as trust deeds, partnership agreements, or business bank statements.

Also, if your business is registered with a federal or state regulator, (for example, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) you will need to provide the name of the regulatory body as well as a reference number.

  4. Enter personal details – We ask for your name, DOB, and current residential address.

  5. Verify your identity – In this step, you'll confirm your identity using your smartphone. You’ll take a photo of your physical ID (either passport or Australian driver licence) and then record a quick video selfie, which will be matched against your ID photo.

Your security is our priority. Read on to learn how we keep your data safe.

How to Use Zeller Receipts as a Marketing Tool

A receipt is the perfect place to further promote your business. Searching for an affordable way to increase sales and encourage repeat business? Look no further than your receipt. In the past, a receipt was simply physical proof of purchase. With Zeller Terminal , your receipts become another way to market to your customers — every time they transact with you. Not personalising your business’ receipts is a missed opportunity to take advantage of an inexpensive and highly effective marketing strategy, provided your merchant services provider allows for customisation. Keep reading to discover five ways Zeller receipts can help strengthen your business' brand and grow sales. 1. Differentiate your business with digital receipts While your competitors are still relying on thermal paper, you can use digital receipts to show customers that you’re one step ahead. Offering three different forms of receipt signals to customers that you value both convenience and environmentally-friendly alternatives. With Zeller, you can offer your customers: a print receipt an email receipt an SMS receipt As we move to a digital-first world, customers expect a digital receipt. It’s good for your business too, as it saves you from needing to buy receipt roll. With Zeller, SMS and email receipts are free to issue. 2. Grow your social media following Besides its obvious advantages in reducing operational costs and paper usage, digital receipts also play an important role in driving deeper customer engagement. When you send a customer their Zeller receipt via SMS or email, the social media icons become hyperlinks to your pages. Chances are, the majority of your customers are on social media. If you connect with them, you have the opportunity to: serve them targeted ads drive clicks to your email newsletter signup form, website, or any online destination upload new stock and specials to your social media pages to get more foot traffic in store and much more. When a customer clicks the Facebook icon on their receipt, for example, they’ll be taken to your business’ Facebook page — where they can read other customer reviews, and leave their own. It’s a win-win. 3. Get your message across Any additional touchpoint is an opportunity to grow and strengthen your relationship with your customers. On your Zeller receipt, there’s a spot to add a custom business message. Make it memorable, and your business will be ingrained in their memory. For Storybook Stems , a boutique floristry studio based in Mount Torrens, the custom receipt functionality provides the opportunity to create a memorable, fun experience for customers. “I really enjoy customising the receipts around and adding jokes to them. I change it up for each market I attend, so my regular customers know it's a different joke every time they visit me,” says Louise Henderson, florist and owner of Storybook Stems. "My customers love it. For new customers it's an unexpected little surprise, and my regulars ask if I have a new joke for them.” "It's a simple way to add to someone's day." You could use this space to: introduce yourself write a blurb about your business advertise specials leave customers a holiday message explain your returns policy All receipt settings — including your custom business message — can be easily edited on Zeller Dashboard as well as Zeller Terminal, and your receipt settings will update immediately. 4. Increase brand awareness A logo says a lot about your business. No doubt, a lot of thought went into it. Logos can be used as a marketing tool to gain exposure, create a brand image that sticks with your customers, and make an excellent first impression as a new business It sounds simple, but having a logo on your receipt is a highly effective subliminal marketing tool. Brand recognition is the first step towards brand loyalty. Simply put, your customers and potential customers need to recognise your brand in order to trust it and visual cues are the best way to achieve that. The human brain can process images 60,000 times faster than words. By adding a logo to your receipt, customers will be able to identify and distinguish your business easily from competitors. Remember, customers need to see a logo between five to seven times before they’ll recognise it. By using the same professional logo across different materials — from service quotes to invoices, social media icons, flyers, email signatures and more — you increase your chances of growing a trusting, repeat customer base that knows and trusts your brand. 5. Help customers find you Your customers are only getting busier. Providing them with a way to contact you or visit your website is a convenience measure they will appreciate. When they need to place a repeat order, or want to contact you for an update on an out-of-stock item, they don’t need to go searching. On your Zeller receipt, there’s a space for all of your most important contact details: business address, phone, and website. Whether you’re just starting a new business or scaling up a successful operation, any opportunity to reinforce your brand in the minds of customers should be taken advantage of. With Zeller, your brand is kept front and centre at all times. Sign up to the Zeller Business Blog to discover more ways Zeller Terminal can help you grow sales.

How to Accept Apple Pay at Your Business

Accepting Apple Pay is faster than dealing with cards or cash. Fast, efficient, and safe service is a priority for every business owner. When it comes to your business’s point of sale, an Apple Pay-ready terminal provides just that. Customers can purchase a coffee, grab a bite to eat, or do their shopping without having to carry their wallets wherever they go. Apple Pay has become so widely used that it’s now essential for your business to have an Apple Pay-ready terminal. The payment method offers convenience and security to customers, while benefiting your business by providing another contactless, COVID-safe way to pay, keeping service flowing, and cutting out long queues waiting to pay. What is Apple Pay and how will it benefit my business needs, you ask? To understand why having an Apple Pay-ready terminal is good for your business, let’s look at its history and how the technology behind it works. What is Apple Pay? Launched on 20 October 2014, Apple Pay removed the need for people to carry around physical wallets or cards — provided they had the right phone. Apple Pay is designed to allow iPhone (iPhone 6 to the latest version) and Apple Watch users access to their money and pay for items via an NFC (near field communication) chip built into their device. Fast forward a few years, and Apple Pay is currently able to be used in 24 countries, in Australia. It’s a secure, simple and fast way to pay. Adding to the ease of use, Apple Pay also allows users (including iPad and Mac) to make online and app purchases from businesses that have adopted the Apple Pay API. The easy-to-use technology has seen Apple Pay remain the dominant in-store mobile wallet player, with a market segment of 45.5% of mobile wallet users. In Australia, Apple Pay is a commonly used payment method in all types of businesses — from coffee shops and bars, to market stalls, high street shops, takeaway joints and fine-dining restaurants. A recent survey showed 47% of Australian respondents had used Apple Pay at a store or restaurant between August 2020 and August 2021. And don’t forget about those customers who use Google Pay; your customers have embraced their digital wallets with gusto. Apple Pay’s growing popularity can be attributed to two main factors. Apple is a highly popular consumer brand, and Apple Pay offers a convenient way of paying for products or services. Apple Pay allows people to ditch their physical wallets and not be burdened by carrying too much on their person. How does Apple Pay work? Apple Pay works thanks to near-field communication technology (NFC). When a customer transacts using NFC, their device or card transmits account information through radio waves to the EFTPOS terminal. It’s helpful to think of the way you would print a document over a wireless printer. However, when it comes to transacting, the customer’s device needs to be at most a few centimeters away from the EFTPOS terminal. For a business to accept NFC payments, its terminals must be equipped with the right technology. Having an Apple Pay-ready terminal is important for every business — which is why Zeller Terminal can accept digital wallets, including Apple Pay, right out of the box. Is it safe to accept Apple Pay? As a business owner, you want to be assured that payments are processed as securely as possible. Apple Pay ensures your customers’ account information is safe, and allows for contactless transactions to be made — which is important for hygiene. The technology provides a safe and secure method of payment that protects your business and your customers. Apple Pay safeguards its users’ account information by encrypting it through tokenisation . This security measure helps protect your customer’s bank details and deters hackers by providing a unique device account number when a credit or debit card is added to the Apple Wallet. For extra security, before a customer can make a payment using their Apple Wallet, they must first use Fingerprint ID, Face ID, or a passcode to unlock their device. This extra layer of security makes the device an almost impenetrable fortress to potential fraud. Contactless payments also assist in protecting against COVID-19, by limiting the touchpoints of customers, business owners, and their staff. It’s more hygienic to use contactless payment rather than pass cash or a card from customer to staff. How to accept Apple Pay at your business Your business may already have an Apple Pay-ready terminal, as most NFC-enabled readers and EFTPOS terminals accept Apple Pay these days. All a customer needs to do is hold their Apple device over the terminal to complete their transaction. If your terminal needs upgrading to a sleeker and more streamlined machine that accepts the latest forms of payment, there are three simple steps to making your business Apple Pay-ready.
