Melbourne, Australia – Wednesday 15 April 2026 12.01AM AEST - Leading Australian fintech Zeller today launches its award-winning all-in-one payments solution in the United Kingdom, as the company accelerates into its next phase of growth in one of the world’s largest fintech markets. Eighteen team members are employed in Zeller’s office in Holborn, London, and early demand amongst UK merchants has been strong with over 100 businesses signing up during the pre-launch phase.
Founded in Melbourne in 2020, Zeller achieved unicorn status faster than the likes of Airwallex, Afterpay, and Atlassian, and now supports more than 100,000 Australian businesses including Domino’s Pizza, Baskin Robbins, The Cheesecake Shop, Chatime, and Concept Eight (which operates the Noodle Box, Acai Brothers, Huxtaburger, and South Seoul brands). Over 100 businesses a day sign up for Zeller in Australia, and 35% of Australians tap their card on a Zeller Terminal every month.
Zeller’s UK entry challenges both legacy banks and fintechs by offering a more streamlined and cost-effective alternative, estimated to save UK merchants up to 35% on card processing fees — equivalent to £5.2 billion annually across the market. The United Kingdom banned card surcharging in 2018, yet has historically seen a higher average card transaction fee of 1.65%, in comparison to Australia, where transaction fees are lower. Zeller has led in Australia by offering premium payment solutions at affordable pricing, and estimates it will save Australian merchants over $21.8M in EFTPOS hardware and transaction fees this financial year alone.
Zeller co-founder and CEO Ben Pfisterer said the launch reflects the company’s ambition to deliver a powerful payments solution to businesses across the world. “We built Zeller to offer Australian businesses a smarter, more reliable, and more affordable alternative to legacy banks and expensive global fintechs. We now support over 100,000 Australian businesses, and have saved merchants nearly $22M in card payment costs this financial year alone — which is essential as Australian merchants look for more affordable payment providers ahead of the RBA’s surcharging ban coming into effect in October.”
The opportunity Zeller is targeting in the UK is four times larger than that in Australia, yet small businesses are still hamstrung by outdated and expensive payment systems. “The UK is one of the world’s most advanced fintech markets and home to millions of small businesses that are vital to the economy. But despite progress being made, payments are still dominated by legacy providers offering unreliable, outdated, and costly hardware, paired with lengthy and time-consuming sign-up processes. UK merchants have been underserved for too long.” commented Pfisterer. “Zeller’s expansion to the UK is a natural next step as we continue building a modern payments solution designed for global businesses.”
