How to refund part of a Zeller POS sale

Refund some or all of a sale, including a sale that was paid with more than one payment, and refund the same sale again later if you need to.

Refunds go back to the payment they came from. Card refunds go back to the customer's card, so you do not need the card in front of you, and cash refunds are handed back in cash.

Please note: refunds need an internet connection. Refund does not appear while your tablet is offline.

Refund a sale

To get started, open Zeller POS on your tablet:

  1. Tap Sales History in the bottom bar.
  2. Tap the sale you want to refund.
  3. Tap the three dots in the top right, then tap Refund. If your business uses a refund PIN, enter it when asked.
  4. Tap Full to refund everything that is left on the sale, or tap Amount and enter the amount to refund.
  5. To record why, tap Reason (Optional) and choose a reason.
  6. Tap Process Refund, or Next if the sale was paid with more than one payment.

If you chose Full, the refund is processed straight away and the screen shows the amount refunded. Tap Done. Full refunds every payment on the sale in one go, including any tips.

If you chose Amount, the Refund by Amount screen shows the payment the refund will go back to, with the amount filled in. Tap Process Refund, then tap Done. An amount refund does not include tips.

Refund an amount from a sale paid with more than one payment

When you refund an amount from a sale that was split across payments, you choose which payment the money goes back to. On the Refund by Amount screen:

  1. A payment is selected for you, with the amount filled in up to what is left on it. To refund to a different payment, tap it.
  2. Tap Process Refund.
  3. If part of the amount is still to be refunded, tap Next Refund, choose the next payment and tap Process Refund.
  4. Tap Done once the whole amount has been refunded.

Remaining for this Refund shows how much is still to go back. Each payment can be used once in a refund, and a payment you have already refunded to is greyed out.

After a refund

The sale shows as Partially Refunded in Sales History until everything has been refunded, then Refunded. Each refund also appears in Sales History as its own entry with a negative amount.

To refund more later, open the sale and tap Refund again. Full shows only what is left to refund.

Please note: you cannot refund more than was paid, and each payment can only refund up to the amount it took.

Please note: card refunds can take 2 to 7 business days to reach your customer's card.
