How do I create and manage Item Routes?

Create a named group of categories that you can send to a printer or a kitchen display. On what an Item Route is and when to use one, view here.

Before you create a route, ensure your items have been assigned to categories first. On how to assign items to a category, view here.

Item Routes are managed on the Zeller POS tablet. You will need to be signed in with a user who has permission to manage items. To enable Item permissions, view here.

Create an Item Route.

To get started, open Zeller POS on your tablet:

  1. Tap Item Management in the bottom bar.
  2. Tap the Item Routes tab. You may need to scroll the tabs across.
  3. Tap the + button in the top right.
  4. Enter a Route Name. Use the name of the station. (Example: Food, Drinks, Bar or Grill)
  5. Tap Categories to open Select Categories.
  6. Tap each category you want in this route. Tap Select All to add every category at once.
  7. Tap Confirm.
  8. Tap Save.

Your route is now available to every printer and kitchen display at this site.

Please note: Only categories that have at least one item at this site are shown in the list.

A route with no categories selected will not send any items anywhere. If you assign an empty route to a printer, that printer will not print.

Edit an Item Route

  1. Tap Item Management in the bottom bar.
  2. Tap the Item Routes tab.
  3. Tap the route you want to change.
  4. Update the Route Name or tap Categories to change the categories.
  5. Tap Save.

Please note: routes are shared. Editing a route changes it everywhere it is used, including on other printers and on your kitchen displays.

Delete an Item Route

  1. Tap Item Management in the bottom bar.
  2. Tap the Item Routes tab.
  3. Tap the route you want to remove.
  4. Tap the three dots in the top right.
  5. Tap Delete Item Route.
  6. Tap Delete to confirm.

If the route is being used by a printer, the confirmation will tell you how many printers are affected. Deleting the route also removes it from those printers, and they will go back to printing all items.

Where else you can create a route

You can also create a route while you are setting up a printer, without leaving the printer screen.

Navigate to Settings > Printers, tap Manage on a printer, turn on Kitchen orders, then use Add Route.

Routes created here are the same routes and appear under Item Management > Item Routes.
