In-person payments
Zeller and PayPal both offer in-person card machines with built-in POS software. Zeller Terminal starts at £99 + VAT, with 4G built in as standard so you can take payments anywhere, no Wi-Fi needed. Both Zeller card machines include split payments, digital receipts, the ability to request tips, and the ability to customise your screensaver and receipts with your own branding.
PayPal Terminal also has 4G, but starts at £149 + VAT. For businesses that need to key in card details remotely, PayPal's manual card entry rate sits at 2.9% + 30p, and you'll need to have already taken a payment through a PayPal Card Reader before the feature becomes available. Zeller's equivalent MOTO rate for domestic Mastercard and Visa cards is 1.5%.*

Online payments
Zeller and PayPal both offer ways to take payments remotely. With Zeller Invoices, you can create, send and customise invoices for free, with automated payment reminders and real-time status tracking. Zeller also offers a payment link feature through Zeller Virtual Terminal so you can take a payment without a website, charged at 1.5% for domestic cards, with no additional fees.
PayPal's invoicing and payment links tools are also free to set up, with no monthly fee, but payment links cost considerably more, at 2.9% + £0.30.

When it comes to business accounts, Zeller gives you more. Zeller Business Account is completely free, with unlimited physical and virtual Zeller Debit Cards included as standard, which you can customise with your logo at no extra cost. PayPal, by contrast, only offers a single PayPal Business Debit Mastercard, and requires you to link a separate business bank account.
Zeller also goes further with expense management cards and Xero Bank Feeds integration included free, neither of which PayPal offers. And while both providers match on the basics, (instant account creation, instant transfers, no international spending fees, no minimum balance and no transfer fees), Zeller lets you open unlimited accounts, compared to PayPal's single account limit.
